Can your dog leap a tall building in a single bound? Does your dog have a little extra energy to burn off? Channel your dog’s energy and athleticism with agility training. We keep it fun, safe, and easy!
Agility classes are held indoors on a matted floor (Michigan Dog Center classes) or outside on a fenced-in grass field, weather permitting (Meadow Run Dog Park classes). Classes held at Meadow Run are open to all students (you do not need to be a member) and to dogs of all breeds. Individual lessons for agility also are available; please contact us for more info. Come out and play!
Get connected with your dog! Increase your training success by improving your communication, reading your dog's body language, and helping your dog feel more confident in new situations. Skills covered include learning to focus in distracting environments, go to mat, exploring new surfaces and sounds, interacting with new pieces of equipment, and building the drive to work. Recommended for dogs six months old and up who have taken a puppy or adult beginner class. Dogs must not be reactive to people or other dogs.
DOG SPORTS SKILLS
Versatility is the name of the game as we build focus and precision through targeting and platform training, scent work and retrieving, and jump wrapping. Learn tons of new skills for everyday life (perfect heeling, anyone?) and for dog sports like agility, obedience, rally, and trick training. Open to dogs of any age and skill level. Experienced teams will get more challenges to keep the fun going. Dogs should be friendly to other dogs and people.
AGILITY 1 (beginner)
Agility fun starts here. Your dog will love zooming through tunnels and leaping over jumps. Don’t worry, dogs are worked on leash as they learn to follow your lead around the course. Open to dogs of any age; dogs under one year will use low jump heights for safety. Dogs should be friendly to other dogs and people.
Comfortable with bar jumps, tunnels, and basic handling? Now you’re ready to go beyond the foundations and learn new obstacles while running short sequences and building off-leash reliability. Open to dogs of any age; dogs under one year will use low jump heights for safety. Dogs should be friendly to other dogs and people.
Gain confidence on the weave poles and teeter as we incorporate these obstacles into short sequences.
You are officially hooked on agility and your dog is comfortable with all obstacles. Get ready for prime time by perfecting your teamwork with challenging courses.
Open Agility is a flexible program that lets you purchase a session pass to attend as many Mondays as you want during the six week session. Open Agility meets on Monday nights for two hours. You can arrive at any time and stay as long as you like. There is no extra charge for multiple dogs from the same household. Maximum enrollment of 15 handlers.
Dogs who are familiar with all obstacles will benefit most from this program. Open Agility is set up like a show and go, with the added benefit of critique and moderate coaching. Instructors will be on hand to offer handling suggestions to those at a lower skill level. Some weeks will offer full courses, some will offer skill drills.
